Maa Annapurna Devi

Daughter of Ustad Allauddin Khan and a legendary Surbahar virtuoso, Maa was an enigmatic titan of Hindustani music.

Whether you are holding a Bansuri for the very first time or seeking to deepen your classical expertise, our offline curriculum offers a clear, step-by-step roadmap grounded in authentic tradition.

Level 1

Swara Arambha

Focus: Mastering posture, lip alignment, finger positioning, and correct blowing techniques (Phook).

Key Milestones:

  • Producing all seven Shuddha Swaras clearly without strain
  • Building finger agility through foundational Alankaras
  • Understanding rhythm and learning your first complete composition in Raag Bhoopali 

Level 2

Raag Pravesh

Focus: Developing tonal stability, smooth note transitions, and solid rhythm integration (Taal & Laya).

Key Milestones:

  • Exploring four foundational classical ragas: Raag Yaman, Brindavani Sarang, Bhimpalasi, and Bageshree
  • Practical understanding of essential rhythmic cycles: Teentaal, Rupak Taal, and Jhaptal

Level 3

Raag - Taal Bodh

Focus: Deepening Raga aesthetics, rhythmic mathematics, ornamentation, and introductory improvisation.

Key Milestones:

  • Exploring the Mathematics in Music and rhythmic calculation (Taal dynamics)
  • Introduction to Raga Aalap and Bandish Improvisation
  • Advanced Alankaras, specialised Bansuri techniques, and mastering Raag Durga, Raag Des, and Raag Hamsadhwani

Level 4

Raag Presentation

Focus: The complete, uncompromised classical training of the Maihar Gharana.

Key Milestones:

  • Comprehensive training across all 10 Thaats. Intense practice of  Bansuri techniques: Meend, Gamak, Khatka, Murkee, and Tatkaar
  • Complete classical Raga architecture: Aalap, Jod, JhalaRaga improvisation
  • Training for concert-level presentation

Everything people ask before their first studio session.

We recommend a G♯ (G Sharp) Base Bansuri (24 inches) for beginner classes and an E Base Bansuri (29–30 inches) for intermediate and advanced classes. If you're unsure which Bansuri is right for you, we'll be happy to help you choose the appropriate instrument.

No. Our Foundation batch is designed for complete beginners with no prior musical experience. If you've already learned Bansuri through our online courses or self-learning, we'll assess your level and place you in the batch that's right for you.

Not usually. Our online and offline batches follow separate learning schedules, so switching between them may not always be possible. If you're relocating or have ongoing scheduling constraints, we'll be happy to assess your progress and help you transition to a suitable online batch whenever possible.

Our classes are open to learners from all walks of life, including school students, working professionals, and retirees in their 60s and beyond. If you have the dedication to learn, there's no age limit to beginning your Bansuri journey.
