Level - 10: Raag Aalap

Develop depth, patience, and artistry through meditative alaap practice

Introduction

The Aalap is where music begins to breathe. It is that unhurried space where a raga slowly reveals itself, one note at a time, without the weight of rhythm or speed. In this course, you will gently enter the art of Aalap through three ragas you already know — Bhoopali, Yaman, and Brindavani Sarang.

Here, the focus is not on “playing” but on experiencing. You will learn to hold a note with patience, let it blossom fully, and connect with its emotional depth. With every phrase, you will discover how Aalap is not just technique, but a meditation — a way of letting your bansuri become your own voice.

What You'll learn

By the end of this course, you will:

  • Be able to unfold Aalap in Bhoopali, Yaman, and Brindavani Sarang
  • Learn to bring out the mood and emotion of a raga, beyond just notes
  • Strengthen your breath and focus for longer, flowing phrases
  • Experience how Aalap forms the soul of Hindustani classical music
  • Begin to feel music as an inner journey, not just outer sound
